Under Horizon Europe, the European Commission has declared the formation of three new European Partnerships. Emphasising sophisticated materials, textiles, and photovoltaics (PV), these projects will help to support Europe’s global competitiveness, industrial resilience, and green transition.
Important foundations of the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan 2025–2027 are the new alliances.
Accelerating its transition towards sustainability and circularity, the “European Partnership for Textiles of the Future” cooperation will Complementing the EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles, the project will use digital innovation and creative business models to increase strategic autonomy and world competitiveness. Earmarked for investment between 2025 and 2030 are a total of €60 million – €30 million (~$32.61 million) apiece from the Commission and industry partners.
Complementing the EU Communication on Advanced Materials for industry Leadership, the “European Partnership for Innovative Advanced Materials for the EU” will foster technological sovereignty and hasten industry acceptance of novel materials. The cooperation aims to produce environmentally friendly, safe innovative materials supporting a circular economy. With equal contributions from public and commercial sectors, 2030 plans a combined investment of up to €500 million (~$543.48 million).
Supporting Europe’s transition to renewable energy sources, the “European Partnership for Innovation in Photovoltaics” seeks to establish Europe’s global PV industry’s leadership. Underlying the goals of the European Green Deal, REPowerEU Plan, and the 2023 Renewable Energy Directive are the initiative.
Once the Memorandum of Understanding is signed, the alliances will start to take shape. Beginning in 2025, its implementation will start through committed Horizon Europe Work Program calls supported by further partner-led activities and funds, the Commission stated in a release.
Launched later in 2025, a fourth co-programmed alliance with an eye towards creating safe, open, interoperable virtual worlds will be Emphasising inclusivity, privacy, and economic opportunity, this project will promote Europe’s Digital Decade 2030 objectives.
Under Horizon Europe, these three new alliances add to a current portfolio of twelve co-programmed European collaborations. Designed to address Europe’s urgent issues, these kinds of alliances help public and commercial sectors to pool resources, match strategic objectives, and stimulate creativity while avoiding duplication.
