BRADFORD, England — The Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) has officially opened entries for the renowned Global Colourist Award 2025. This international award honors exceptional creativity, innovation, and expertise in the coloration industry, celebrating early-career colourists making an impact during their first 10 years in the field.
The Global Colourist Award aims to spotlight the immense talent, technical knowledge, and diversity within the coloration sector. Open to professionals across various industries such as textiles, dyes and pigments, leather, food, paint, production dyeing, shift dyeing, and printing, the award serves as a benchmark of excellence for those shaping the future of color science and innovation.
The submission period began on February 1, 2025, and will close on June 30, 2025. The winner will be announced in mid-September, with the award presented during the SDC Day of Celebration in October 2025 in the UK.
Celebrating Excellence in Colouration
Last year’s winner, Joanna Kay ASDC of Heathcoat Fabrics Ltd., received widespread recognition for her groundbreaking contributions to dyeing processes, formulation improvements, and bridging design with technical expertise. Nominated by her manager, Sarah Marshall, Joanna’s achievements also included earning her Associateship of the SDC while maintaining a full-time position.
Reflecting on her win, Joanna shared: “I am deeply grateful for this honor and the encouragement I received along the way. Balancing work and studies was challenging, but the experience has been invaluable. This award has reinforced my love for colour science and inspires me to continue driving innovation in the industry.”
The Prize and Opportunity
The 2025 winner will receive a £1,000 cash prize, sponsored by Advanced Chemical Holdings Ltd., along with a fully funded trip to the UK for the awards ceremony. The winner will also be featured in The Colourist magazine, showcasing their achievements on an international platform.
